Trias Energetica: a-l-w-a-y-s first save energy and only then use sustainable energy. We used that principle in 2015 to build the world's most sustainable office under BREEAM (still holding that title today) and we are using it again in 2020 to build the world's most energy efficient dryers.
The hot wet air from our dryer's exhaust contains nearly all of the energy that was needed to heat up the air and evaporate the moisture in the product. By passing cold water from an industrial heat pump through a Counterflow Recovery Unit, we are condensing the moisture in that hot wet air, recovering most of the latent heat. The warm return water is boosted in temperature by that same heat pump and is then used to generate hot drying air.
Net results:
* up to 65% reduction in energy and water consumption
* no more need for natural gas
* potentially 100% reduction in CO2 emissions
* cooled down exhaust air with reduced odor
In 2021 we will be commissioning these systems worldwide for 2 and probably 3 of the world's biggest food companies.
